Funding Week Illustration

The past week, September 19-25, 2026, demonstrated a bifurcation in India's startup funding landscape, with substantial growth-stage capital deployed in specific sectors alongside a resilient and diversified early-stage funding environment. Indian startups collectively secured $203.4 million across 21 deals, a significant increase from the preceding week's $58.9 million across 14 deals. This surge was primarily driven by two large rounds, signaling concentrated investor conviction in scale-ready ventures.

Ema, an AI application layer firm, captured the week's largest AI investment with a $77 million Series B round, led by Creaegis, with participation from Accel, S32, and Prosus. This single deal constituted 86% of the $89.3 million raised by five AI startups this week, highlighting a selective but high-conviction approach to AI investments. Simultaneously, the cleantech sector saw a substantial $85 million Series E infusion into Ultraviolette Automotive for electric vehicles, led by Yali Capital and TDK Ventures, indicating continued strategic interest in sustainable mobility solutions.

Beyond these marquee deals, early-stage funding remained robust, particularly in the seed stage, which accounted for $20.3 million across five transactions. Notably, Rivet, a social networking platform, secured a $10.5 million seed round led by Peak XV Partners, underscoring persistent investor appetite for foundational-stage innovation even in competitive sectors. Investors like Peercheque and Sauce.VC were active, each backing two startups, predominantly in seed and pre-seed rounds across diverse sectors like D2C e-commerce, such as betterhood and Protein Pantry.

The distribution of capital suggests a dual strategy among investors: large, strategic bets on proven models in high-potential sectors like AI and cleantech, complemented by a continuous exploration and backing of nascent opportunities across the broader startup ecosystem. The e-commerce sector, despite smaller individual deal sizes, led in deal volume with six startups collectively raising $3.8 million, indicating a fragmented but active market for D2C brands.

This week's activity implies that while headline-grabbing mega-rounds will likely continue to dominate overall funding figures, the underlying health of the startup ecosystem, particularly at early stages, remains stable and diversified. The sustained inflow into seed and pre-seed rounds indicates that the pipeline for future growth-stage companies remains active, suggesting a balanced outlook for venture capital deployment in the coming quarters.

The Big Moves

Ema secured $77 million in a Series B round led by Creaegis for its AI application layer solution.
Ultraviolette Automotive raised $85 million in a Series E round from Yali Capital and TDK Ventures for electric vehicles.
Rivet closed a $10.5 million Seed round led by Peak XV Partners for its social networking platform.
Dextr AI attracted $6.7 million in a Seed round led by Elevation Capital for its B2B AI offerings.
GalaxEye received $6.7 million from RDI Fund for its spacetech innovations.

Sector Spotlight

Artificial Intelligence emerged as the dominant sector for venture capital deployment this week, attracting a cumulative $89.3 million across five deals. The lion's share of this capital was directed towards Ema, which secured a substantial $77 million Series B round. This investment underscores investor confidence in the scalability and market penetration of sophisticated B2B AI application layers, particularly from established venture firms like Creaegis, Accel, S32, and Prosus. The sector also saw significant activity at earlier stages, with Dextr AI raising a $6.7 million seed round from Elevation Capital and Foundation Capital, and Sol Foundry securing $4 million from General Catalyst and Nexus Venture Partners. This concentrated investment in AI, spanning pre-seed to Series B, highlights a maturing yet highly dynamic segment. The strong emphasis on B2B application layers suggests a market demand for efficiency and automation solutions within enterprises. For the next 1-2 quarters, this trend indicates continued robust investment in AI, with a potential for further consolidation and larger growth-stage rounds as these companies demonstrate product-market fit and commercial viability. Early-stage AI ventures will likely continue to attract capital, particularly those addressing specific enterprise pain points or leveraging novel foundational models.
